‘Cover Crush’ is a regular feature here at BCC. We love covers – they’re the first thing that catches our eye and will be the primary reason we pick up a book. This feature is where we highlight gorgeous covers of books we’ve seen around the blogosphere.

We’ve found some lovely new covers this week. Below are some of our favourites! We’ve kept the images nice and large so you can take a good look! Enjoy :D

WIDOW’S WEB (Elemental Assassin series #7)
Release Date: Aug 2012 | Publisher: Pocket Books | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Tony Mauro

JENNIFER ESTEP ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I love this cover, it really makes me want to read the book. I love the nighttime hues and even without seeing her face I know she’s badass. I love the stone steps leading up to the haunted looking house in the distance, with the one light on. Great atmospherics.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: Wow love this one. It does kind of remind me of J.A. Saare’s Rhiannon’s Law covers. But, I like the blue filter over the cover, the spooky staircase leading up the house and the pose with the sword behind her back.

CONTROL POINT (Shadow Ops #1)
Release Date: Nov 2012 | Publisher: Headline | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Larry Rostant

MYKE COLE ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: This is the UK cover and I agree with Laura, this guy looks totally badass and pretty sexy to boot. I think I prefer it to the US cover as it’s more realistic and he doesn’t have such a harsh face. I love his expression in this cover, as well as his stance and gun, and the typography goes really well too. On a side note, this was reviewed by Rebecca a few weeks ago and she loved it.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: Apart from the fact the guy looks super bad-ass! The gun and the dark swirly clouds with the white and blue lights adds a real sense of danger, as though the book promises some serious action!

END GAME (Sarantha Jax #6)
Release Date: Aug 2012 | Publisher: Ace | Genre: Sci-Fi Romance | Artist: Scott Fischer

ANN AGUIRRE ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I think this is a great cover. Very detailed without being too busy. I love her pose and expression. Her clothes and weapons make her look totally badass (I seem to be saying that a lot today). I also think the typography is great too. All round a super cover.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: Like Carolyn, I like the heroine’s clothes and weapons they make her look really hard-as-nails! The background gives an industrial, futuristic feel to it. Nice use of colour on her goggles and the weapon (?) she’s standing on, combined with the lettering.

HEART OF STEEL (Iron Seas #2)
Release Date: June 2012 | Publisher: Berkley UK | Genre: Steampunk Romance | Artist: Unknown

MELJEAN BROOK ONLINE
Website | TwitterFacebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: This is lovely UK cover. Really atmospheric and screams steampunk, and there’s a little bit of pirate in her too, don’t you think? I love the model and the background, both work really well together, and I think the title font fits perfectly. This is a BIG improvement on the US cover.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: So steampunk, it’s superb. Her outfit is cool, and the look of the model and her pose is great combined with metallic, machinery background. I really like it.

MAGIC WITHOUT MERCY (Allie Beckstrom #8)
Release Date: May 2012 | Publisher: Berkley UK | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Unknown

DEVON MONK ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: This is the new UK cover. Not very different from the US version. Although it’s an urban fantasy series, this cover has a sci-fi feel to me. I think it’s because the circles behind her look like moons and the structure looks like a space craft, although I’m sure it’s not. Very nice cover though. I like it.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: I can see where Carolyn gets the sci-fi impression from. But having read a couple of books in the series, I’m guessing they’re magical circles. Allie looks great, I like the fact you can see her tattoo peaking over the top of her leather jacket. The sword and the gun in her hand and the look on her face show you she’s definitely not a girl to be messed up. It’s making me think I should pick up book number three soon!

ZOM-B
Release Date: Sept 2012 | Publisher: Simon & Schuster | Genre: YA Horror | Artist: Unknown

DARREN SHAN ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: Ok, I had to add this one (sorry, Laura!). I love zombies and this is a new zombie series coming out later this year. Such a great cover – very creepy! The zombie boy’s face and long pointed finger nails are chilling. Love it.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: Yikes Zombies! (This is what happens when you have a zombie nut for a friend ;-) ) His nails give me the heebie jeebies! Great retro 70s style topography though and when you look at the cover you have no doubt what genre you’re picking up *shudder*

THE RIPPLE EFFECT (Rhiannon’s Law #3)
Release Date: Summer 2012 | Publisher: Mundania Press | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Skyla Dawn Cameron

J. A. SAARE ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I’m with Laura, this isn’t the best cover in the series but it is good. I love the glowing doorway as it makes me wonder what’s beyond it, and the necklace gives it intrigue. I also like the title font too.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: This is perhaps not my favourite of the three covers in the series so far, but I still like it. What works for me is the back view of Rhiannon holding the amulet which adds a sense of intrigue, and the effect on the lettering of the title.

TAKING ON THE DEAD (Famished #1)
Release Date: May 2013 | Publisher: Self-Published | Genre: YA Dark Fantasy | ArtistStephanie Mooney

ANNIE WALLS ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: This is one of those rare times when you find a really good cover of a self-published book. This is very atmospheric. I love its bleakness and the scratchy/grainy effect. The machete in the woman’s hand is a very nice touch. If I saw this in the book shop, I would definitely pick it up. Fab.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: This is a very clever cover, it works on many levels. The grainy effect of the artwork makes it look dystopian and bleak. The emptiness of the countryside only adds to this impression. The silhouette of the machette trailing behind the girl, on what could of otherwise been a innocous cover just adds that final dark and ominous touch.

MOONSHIFTED (Edie Spence #2)
Release Date: Nov 2012 | Publisher: St Martin’s Press | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Unknown

CASSIE ALEXANDER ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I’m not sure why but I really like this cover. There’s not really a lot going on except for the sexy nurse image and the howling wolf in the background, but it works. I would definitely pick this up in a book shop. And I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of book one Nightshifted.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: This cover has me intrigued as I’ve not come across this series before. The heroine certainly has the sexy nurse thing down! I do like the werewolf and full moon in the window behind her. The blue hue to the cover adds to the supernatural atmosphere. Looks fun!

UNDEAD TO THE WORLD (The Bloodhound Files #6)
Release Date: Nov 2012 | Publisher: St Martin’s Press | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Artist: Unknown

D. D. BARANT ONLINE
Website | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I too love this cover mainly because of the gorgeous wolves. I love that she’s touching them as it makes me think she’s in control of them. I love the purple tones and the slightly glowing font works really well.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: The two things that immeditately capture my attention are the awesome wolves on either side of the heroine. I like the fact she has her hands on them. Her stance is a mix of sexy and tough. The background is really intriguing you can almost see a silhouette of I’m guessing a demon (?) behind her.

SACRIFICE THE WICKED (Dark Mission #4)
Release Date: Sept 2012 | Publisher: Avon | Genre: Paranormal Romance | Artist: Unknown

KARINA COOPER ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I’m not too keen on bare chested guys on my covers either, but this one just caught my eye. It may be the fact it has lovely Book Chick City pink for the title colour ;) I like the font too, and let’s be honest, the model isn’t too bad on the eyes…

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: I guess what you know what I’m going to say about this one. I’m not really a fan to be honest. Firstly half naked man, but the tattoo on his chest looks kind of weird too. Don’t get me wrong I do appreciate a yummy six-pack just not on my book covers. I am a fan however of the pink typeface of the book title.

UNDER THE MOON (Goddess Rising #1)
Release Date: Sept 2012 | Publisher: Entangled Publishing | Genre: Paranormal Romance | Artist: Unknown

NATALIE J. DAMSCHRODER ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I really love this cover. It’s so much better than the original. I love the font and the moon as an O, I also really like the decoration at the bottom . The chick looks sassy, and I love her leather jacket. I will definitely be buying this one.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: This design is really crisp, I like the clean lines and the bright, full moon. Overall the impression is sharp, sexy and cool. I’m also a big fan of the font and in particular the moon in the ‘O’ of the title.

GEEKOMANCY (#1)
Release Date: July 2012 | Publisher: Pocket Star | Genre: Urban Fantasy (?) | Artist: Unknown

MICHAEL R. UNDERWOOD ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Gooreads

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: This looks as though it could be a really fun read. The heroine is definitely giving off sexy secretary vibes LOL I love the title too!

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: He he I love this one! Maybe it’s just the book title, but the leading lady looks just like my kind of gal. Totally digging her outfit and glasses. Sexy secretary meets supernatural :-D

SERAPHINA (Seraphina #1)
Release Date: August 2012 | Publisher: Hodder | Genre: Paranormal Romance | Artist: Unknown

RACHEL HARTMAN ONLINE
Website | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I think this is a gorgeous cover. I love the title font and the bat wing motif. I like the look of the girl and the dragon’s eye in the background. Very atmospheric.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: Oh I do enjoy a good fantasy, and dragons! This is fiery and beautiful, I like the dragon’s eye in the background, her hair and elegant cape.

WHITE HORSE (White Horse #1)
Release Date: April 2012 | Publisher: Simon & Schuster | Genre: Dystopian | Artist: Unknown

ALEX ADAMS ONLINE
Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon UK & US

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I’ve read White Horse and this book has captured the essence brilliantly. This has a very bleak and dark feel about it combined with hopelessness. The woman looks dejected and the surrounding trees and house gives it an ominous feel. I also like the font too. All in all a fab cover.

LAURA’S THOUGHTS: This cover has a very dark, dystopian feel to it. The use of black and white is bleak as it the almost defeated figure of a girl in the centre of it. There is something starkly chilling about it.

CAROLYN’S FAVOURITE: I agree with Laura. Very difficult to choose, so I have a few favourites: Widow’s Web, White Horse, End Game and Taking on the Dead. But to be honest they are all lovely.

LAURA’S FAVOURITE: Tough one! I think it’s got to be a tie between ‘Widow’s Web’, ‘End Game’, ‘Geekomancy’ and ‘Taking on the Dead’. I know that’s four, but I can’t decide!
